Description

Flow Table (Motorised) is a precision lab instrument designed to test the flow and workability of cement mortar or concrete mixes under controlled mechanical motion. It automates the standard drop action used in conventional flow tables, enhancing test consistency, repeatability, and efficiency — especially in high-volume laboratories.

This equipment is essential in cement R&D centers, quality control departments, and testing labs, where precise determination of material flowability is needed. The motorised version eliminates manual errors by regulating the number and height of drops through a pre-calibrated motor-driven mechanism.Flow Table Motorised, Motorised Flow Table, Automated Cement Flow Test.

Like the manual version, the Flow Table Motorised is used in accordance with IS 1199:1959 – Methods of Sampling and Analysis of Concrete and ASTM C230 – Standard Specification for Flow Table for Use in Tests of Hydraulic Cement. Both standards prescribe the size of the table, shape of the mould, and number of drops needed to perform valid flow tests.

Key Components & Features:

  • Motorised Drive Unit: Pre-programmed to perform a standard number of drops (typically 15–25) at a fixed height of 12.5 mm

  • Flow Table Plate: Circular, rigid brass or stainless-steel plate – 762 mm diameter

  • Base Frame: Heavy, stable foundation to absorb drop impact and vibration

  • Conical Flow Mould: Frustum-shaped mould for shaping the fresh mortar or cement paste

  • Control Panel: Enables operation with start/stop functions and drop count presets

  • Safety Locking Mechanism: Prevents accidental activation and ensures user safety

How It Works:

  1. Fill the flow mould placed on the center of the table with cement mortar or concrete of standard consistency.

  2. Lift the mould vertically.

  3. Press the start button on the control panel. The motor automatically drops the table from a height of 12.5 mm, usually 25 times, ensuring exact repetition every cycle.

  4. Measure the diameter of the spread to determine the flow value of the sample.

This process assesses the mix’s suitability for various applications such as self-compacting mortar, grouts, flooring, overlays, and repair work. It also helps fine-tune mix proportions and evaluate the impact of admixtures or plasticizers on fresh mix performance.

Advantages of the Motorised Flow Table:

  • Eliminates manual fatigue and operator variation

  • Enhances consistency and repeatability in lab results

  • Reduces time per test, ideal for batch-wise QA

  • Easy to operate with programmable drop cycles

  • Durable, corrosion-resistant, and low-maintenance

Use Cases:

  • Central cement testing laboratories

  • Precast concrete production units

  • Third-party quality assurance agencies

  • Academic and research institutions

  • Construction material manufacturing R&D

Motorised flow tables are particularly beneficial in environments where large numbers of flow tests are conducted each day. By automating the drop cycles, the instrument not only ensures consistent results but also allows technicians to focus on other aspects of the test.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

Q1: How is the Motorised Flow Table different from the manual version?
It automates the dropping process, ensuring uniform drop height, frequency, and timing, eliminating human error.

Q2: What standards does this apparatus comply with?
It complies with IS 1199:1959 and ASTM C230 for mortar/concrete flow testing.

Q3: Can I adjust the number of drops per test?
Yes, the control panel typically allows you to preset the number of drops, commonly set at 25 for standard tests.

Q4: Is this equipment portable?
Due to the motor and heavy base, it is lab-based, not portable like manual versions.

Q5: What type of samples can be tested with this?
It is ideal for cement mortar, concrete, grout, self-leveling mixes, and any material requiring workability assessment.
