FILTERLESS CENTIFUGE EXTRACTOR AZA0947
The AZA0947 Filterless Centrifuge Extractor from AZALAB is a high-efficiency laboratory instrument engineered for the rapid and accurate determination of bitumen (asphalt) content in hot-mixed bituminous paving mixtures. Unlike conventional centrifuge extractors, the AZA0947 eliminates the need for disposable filter papers, thereby simplifying operation, reducing consumable costs, and minimizing handling-related errors.
This makes the AZA0947 particularly suitable for high-throughput quality control laboratories involved in road construction and pavement evaluation, especially within large-scale infrastructure projects.
Description
Principle of Operation
A known weight of bituminous mixture is placed inside the rotating extractor bowl. A suitable solvent (such as trichloroethylene or methylene chloride) is added to dissolve the bitumen binder. During rotation, centrifugal force separates the dissolved binder–solvent solution through a permanent fine mesh or screen integrated within the bowl, while retaining aggregate particles inside.
The extraction cycle is repeated until the aggregate is visibly clean. The aggregate is then dried and weighed, and the bitumen content is calculated by difference from the original sample weight. The collected solvent–bitumen solution may be processed further using a solvent recovery unit (e.g., AZA0949) for reuse of solvent and recovery of binder.
