LONGITUDINAL COMPRESSOMETER AZA1172

The AZA 1172 Longitudinal Compressometer is a precision mechanical instrument designed for measuring axial (longitudinal) deformation of concrete cylinders subjected to compressive loading. Manufactured in full compliance with ASTM C469, it is an essential tool for determining the modulus of elasticity and supporting calculations of Poisson’s ratio in hardened concrete.

This instrument is widely used in construction material testing laboratories, civil engineering research facilities, academic institutions, and quality control departments, where accurate stress–strain characterization of concrete is required.

Purpose & Function

During compression testing, concrete undergoes axial shortening. Accurate measurement of this deformation is critical for plotting the stress–strain curve and calculating elastic properties. The AZA 1172 compressometer measures these minute changes in length with high precision, ensuring reliable and repeatable results.

When used alongside a compression testing machine—and optionally with a lateral extensometer—the AZA 1172 enables full elastic behavior analysis in accordance with ASTM C469 procedures.

Description

Design & Construction

The compressometer features a lightweight yet rigid aluminum alloy frame, engineered to maintain dimensional stability under repeated loading cycles. The unit is mounted directly onto the specimen using quick-fit clamping rings or threaded studs, allowing fast installation and consistent positioning.

A high-precision mechanical dial gauge (standard) measures axial deformation over a fixed gauge length, typically set between 200 mm and 250 mm. The gauge offers excellent readability and stability, ensuring accurate tracking of deformation throughout the loading cycle. Digital or LVDT-based variants are available upon request.

The system is adjustable to accommodate 100 mm and 150 mm diameter concrete cylinders, generally of 300 mm height, making it suitable for standard laboratory testing practices.
